Stanton supporters to meet on Oct. 29

Stanton supporters to meet on Oct. 29

Supporters of Greg Stanton will gather on Oct. 29 to canvass downtown streets in support of their candidate for mayor of Phoenix.

Equality Arizona, the LGBT civil rights organization, is promoting the gathering, called "Stand Strong for Equality," that will begin at 10 a.m. at Fair Trade Café, 424 N. Central Ave., Phoenix. Those attending are encouraged to bring their walking shoes.

After the walk, there will be a reception with Stanton at the Fair Trade Café.

The session comes days after LGBT activists criticized the Arizona Republican Party for a mailer that they said attempted to smear Stanton by listing Equality Arizona as one of only two groups supporting him. The mailer listed 12 current and former Arizona Republican officials as supporting Stanton's opponent, Wes Gullet.

To RSVP for the Oct. 29 event, email Lawrence Robinson at lawrencer@equalityarizona.org.

The election is on Nov. 8.
