Full Circle Women's Chorus

A holiday concert marks the emergence of a classical women's community choir.

Full Circle Women's Choir celebrates the light of the season

The Full Circle Women's Choir holiday concert represents the group's continued emergence as the Valley's only classical women's community choir, according to Kimilee McCreary, artistic director of the group that's in its second year.

The choir will perform a concert titled "Illuminaté" Dec. 16 and 17 at Congregational United Church of Christ in Phoenix.

"Illuminaté means bringing light to darkness and enlightening with new knowledge," McCreary explained. "Our concert promises a journey through the passions of the holiday season. It starts with the wonder of light returning to our hearts and world, continues with the miracle of light, the light and joy of the season and ends with a finale of the celebration of light found only at this time of the year."

The choir's musical selections reflect a cross-culture of themes, styles and texts, including classic holiday pieces like "The Holly and the Ivy" (with an original Pagan text); "S'vivon" and "Torah Orah," both from the Hebrew tradition; and "Deck the Halls" and "Carol of the Bells" from the Christmas tradition.

The concert will feature several soloists as well as the Full Circle's accompanist, Mamak Charepoo, two violinists and a clarinetist.

"Music is an integral part of what makes the holidays meaningful and the repertoire of this concert reflects that." McCreary said.

The choir's performances in the community included October's first graduation ceremony at the Sojourner Transition Center, a domestic violence shelter for women and children.

Full Circle also performed at several events for Phoenix Mayor-elect Greg Stanton, who has invited the choir to perform at his inauguration in January. They also will be performing at a local World AIDS Day celebration.    -E
