Youth Power

2011 is marked by efforts to empower LGBT young people.

Youth Power

A Year of Youth Power

If 2010 was the year that LGBT youth issues finally gained mainstream national attention, then 2011 might be marked as a year when we went to work to try to make things right.

Echo Magazine's Man and Woman of the Year for 2011 — Caleb Laieski and Kado Stewart — embody that attitude. Both young people themselves, they've dedicated themselves to helping other LGBT youth — Laieski by lobbying for protections in schools, Stewart by continuing to build her creation, OUTdoors! gay camp.

On the following pages, you'll find stories about Laieski and Stewart, a review of some of the other top stories of 2011, plus a look ahead to what to expect in 2012.
