Reception to honor Echo’s Man and Woman of the Year Man and Woman of the Year Cover 529

Echo Magazine’s Man and Woman of the year, Micheal Weakly and Tambra Williams, will be honored at a reception hosted by 1n10.

The event will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 19 at My Florist Café, 534 W. McDowell Road, Phoenix.

10n10 Executive Director Nick Ray said he wanted to host the event to give members of the community a chance to recognize the award winners.

“It’s going to be a great night,” Ray said. “It’s a simple but classy way to acknowledge both Micheal and Tambra.” He said he wanted to stage the reception after the crush of holiday events.

Weakley and Williams were profiled in the Dec. 24 edition of Echo Magazine. Weakley was recognized for his work as program director at 1n10, an agency that provides services for LGBT youth. Williams was recognized for her work as Phoenix Police Department liaison to the LGBT community, a position she held for six years before being reassigned late last year.

There will be complimentary hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Ray said My Florist’s pianist Nicole is coming in on her night off to provide music.

Echo Associate Publisher Tim DePlanche said this the first time that the magazine’s annual honorees would be recognized with a reception. Ray said the reception could become an annual event.

My Florist Café is providing the space and hor d’oeuvres for the reception. My Florist manager Keith Lukasavage said the event is one way the establishment is reaching out to the LGBT community.

Lukasavage said My Florist’s owner and most of the restaurant’s staff are gay. The restaurant is a gay favorite for dinner, with Lukasavage estimating that 60 percent of the evening clientele is gay. He said diners are attracted to My Florist because because “we stand alone as far as our ambiance.”
